About a year ago, on February 17 2004 I started a blog entitled letters to the editor: unpublished (and published) letters to the editor of newspapers about Bainbridge Island.
I only posted one message but the frustration that triggered its creation stayed with me: it seems no day passes without my feeling upset by the way an issue is exposed or ignored by the existing mainstream media: it can be the local newspapers, the radio, the national or international press I very often feel stunned and stinged by their way of reporting.
One solution would be to turn them off, stop reading, stop listening and just live happily everafter.
Another
solution would be to brush them off, shrug and move on: life is too
short for such petty and useless and fruitless bickering.
Yeah that would work.
But I know somewhere I would still feel frustrated that things remain
somewhere somehow distorded as if my mission in life was to set the
record straight.
As if it was possible. As if it mattered. As if I had
any reason or right or obligation to get into this quixotesque and
pretentious task.
It looks like I am going to give it another try and this time I am going to try inviting others to join me.
See if there are other frustrated writers to the editors itching enough to post their thoughts on this blog.
After all this is what the new media are about: giving to anybody the possibility to express an opinion and share it on line.
I think this island could use more of this type of writing and on line publishing.
Let us have the letters fly.
