In August 2006,
Chile adopted a new tobacco law which, in addition to establishing
smoking restrictions in public places, banning advertising and the
promotion of 'light' brands, required that all cigarette packages
display a graphic health warning that occupies 50% of the package
surface.
The requirement for

Our friend Hemant Goswami informs us that once
again it has been proved that the tobacco lobby has a better control of the
Indian Health Ministry (like in many others places across the world)
than the tobacco control and public health organizations. In an unfortunate development, the
rules which made it mandatory to carry pictorial warnings covering 50% of the
tobacco product packages have been
postponed for an unknown time period.

An image of a fragile newborn caught up in a tangle of tubes will soon be appearing on cigarette packs across Australia.
The confronting shot is part of the next series of seven graphic images and will be pasted on packs starting this november.

A 10% percent drop in tobacco consumption in the first four months of
this year is a sign that smokers have been affected by the “smoking
kills” labels on cigarette packets.
The 678 million packet consumption last year between January and April, decreased to 612 million packets this year.
