BATN to Extend Community Development Projects to States

The British American Tobacco Nigeria foundation (BATN), at the weekend, assured that in fulfillment of its corporate responsibility, will execute community development projects in all the states of the federation, including Abuja before the end of 2009.
Besides, the foundation has donated two solar powered borehole to Kazong - Du community in Plateau State as effort to intervene in their social, health and economic needs.

Handing over the project during the commissioning ceremony, chairman of the BATN Foundation, Chief Olu Akinkugbe, said the selection of Du and Kazong - Du communities for the project was as a result of the mutual relationship between the people and the foundation.
The project, according to BATN, is designed to function 24 hours, seven days a week and operate round the clock everyday of the year to serve the consumers effectively.
His words: "They are equipped with other accessories that BATN foundation's solar powered boreholes have in common such as 20, 000 litres water storage tank, water management kiosk, taps and panel of sixty-crystaline solar modules that power the submersible pumps.
Executive director of BATN Foundation, Mr. Folusa Koku, who spoke more on the projects, said during the day it uses solar energy electricity and batteries so that at night when the solar panels are at rest, the interval facilities release energy stored in the batteries to power the pump.
According to him, during the day it recognizes that there is a new source of power and it then switches off power supply from the batteries and powers the solar panel to supply energy generated by them to power the pups.
He assured that the water generated from it is clean, portable and free of water-borne diseases.
Plateau State governor, Jonah Jang who expressed deep appreciation for the gesture done to his people by the BATN Foundation, said his administration remains focused in improvising on the challenges confronting the state.
