Burkina Faso

The aim of the project is prepare a national strategic plan for tobacco control and based on it develop, validate and implement a comprehensive law on tobacco control.
Union des Associations de Lutte Contre le Tabac (UACT) $73,539 Start Date: 2008
Project to strengthen existing smokefree policies and advertising bans; to launch advocacy campaigns targeted toward the Minister of Health, Director General, Minister of Territorial Administration and other government officials; to raise awareness of tobacco control in coordination with local authorities in the five administrative capitals of Burkina Faso; and to launch a media campaign including print, television and radio.
Chad
Association pour la defense des Droits des Consommateurs $64,125 Start Date: 2008
The project aims to support the adoption of draft national tobacco control legislation, which is in line with the FCTC and includes smokefree public places, pictorial pack warnings and a total advertising ban. Investment will be made in lobbying, advocacy, and raising awareness and building support among the public.
Kenya
Institute for Legislative Affairs $170,000 Start Date: 2009
The overall purpose of the project is to support capacity of law
enforcement agencies in Kenya to enforce the Tobacco Control Act 2007
with a special emphasis on smoke free public places and advertising,
promotion and sponsorship and tobacco product regulation.
Kenya Tobacco Control Alliance $191,750 Start Date: 2009
This project aims to create awareness on the Tobacco Control Act 2007, to monitor its implementation and enforcement and to build the capacity of civil society organisations involved in tobacco control in Kenya through their umbrella body (KETCA) to reduce the burden of death, disease and disability caused by tobacco.
Niger
SOS Tabagisme Niger $94,900 Start Date: 2007
Project to support enforcement of and public compliance with smoke-free laws; to launch media campaigns to increase the support for smokefree public places and workplaces among trade unions, business leaders, local officials, and the media; to launch an education campaign aimed at dispelling myths about the relative harmlessness of second-hand smoke; to build the capacity of civil society organizations to advocate effectively for improved tobacco control, particularly at the local level.

Environmental Rights Action/ Friends of the Earth, Nigeria & Nigeria Tobacco Control Alliance $627,690 Start Date: 2007
Project to support enactment of legislation to comply with the country's FCTC obligations; to provide technical assistance to Parliament in the development of tobacco control legislation; to launch a Media Advocacy campaign to increase awareness of and support for tobacco control issues; and to focus an education campaign targeted towards Nigeria's youth, the fastest growing segment of the population.
Tanzania
Tanzania Tobacco Control Forum $310,062 Start Date: 2008
Project to advocate for a smokefree Dar es Salaam and for strong national tobacco control legislation; to enhance the capacity of the Tanzania Tobacco Control Forum (TTCF) as a national tobacco control network; to launch an advocacy campaign targeted towards government officials to ensure that existing legislation is FCTC compliant; to strengthen the capacity of Tobacco Products Regulation Committee to enforce existing tobacco control legislation.
Zambia
Zambia Consumer's Association $88,770 Start Date: 2008
Project to advocate for comprehensive tobacco control legislation by launching a sustained lobbying campaign targeted towards Parliamentarians, by launching an awareness raising campaign for the public about the harmful effects of tobacco; and to conduct an education campaign on tobacco control aimed at Zambian women's groups, religious leaders, and doctors.
