Here is the press release (pdf format). ATCA signed a contract with IDRC in september 2009. What is going to happen to this project and all the other grants that are still on going?
ATCA received financial support of 122,000 CAD from International Development Research Center (IDRC).
The overall objective of the grant is to allow the network to establish a solid foundation to develop future programmes.
The purpose of this development phase will be achieved through three specific objectives enabling ATCA to:
• Build alliance by creating a secretariat and services development for its members (recruitment of a program officer and communication officer);
• Work out a for 5 years –strategic plan for the network and mobilize more resources;
• Draw up a procedure manual for the organization;
• Represent African interests of tobacco control at regional level;
• Recruit a program officer and a communication officer for a period of one year.
In September 2009, a final agreement was signed with IDRC and a first payment of 58,200 CAD has been allotted to ATCA. The Secretariat is currently implementing this project.
