This post is about how Foundations should admit mistakes and learn from them. It describes how Bill Gates dealt with the difficulty of eradicating polio and how it is important no to put a failure under the carpet.

Unfortunately this is what happened with the IDRC grant. It is one thing to announce a grant is "terminated" but what's next? and what lessons if any are learned about the management of tobacco control grants in Africa?
