$177,121 awarded to the Office National de Lutte Antitabac to support the adoption of smoke-free public and workplaces by the Bloomberg Initiative. it's almost twice the amount of the previous grant that was devoted to graphic warnings. Achieving 100% smoke-free publics places and workplaces in Madagascar

The aim of this project is to support the adoption of 100% smoke free public places and workplaces in Madagascar. It will build the capacity of institutions and NGOs to conduct smoke free campaigns and advocating for new regulation implementation for 100% smoke free places.
It will strengthen information and mobilize members of government and decision makers, and increase media attention to the hazards of second hand smoke exposure.
The project intends to ensure application of Article 5.3 (protection of legislation from tobacco industry interference). It also aims to support regional efforts in Francophone Africa for graphic health warnings by sharing Madagascar’s experience in their adoption.

This project aims to strengthen the legislation on packaging and labelling of tobacco products, with the inclusion of pictorial health warnings in particular. This will require raising awareness and capacity-building to enact new legislation and utilize advocacy and partnership building. Key strategies include raising awareness of the need for graphic health warnings, developing appropriate images, drafting legal instruments and securing endorsement and validation by relevant ministries/experts and tobacco control NGOs, introduction of graphic warnings and monitoring and evaluation of their impact.
