I remember my Dad humming Les roses blanches. A classic of the "chanson réaliste" (mostly sad and tragic). It was one of the first hits of Berthe Sylva (1885-1941). The music is by Léon Raiter (accordeonist with Radio Tour Eiffel), the lyrics by Charles Louis Pothier. The song had been created in 1926 but Berthe Sylva's recording gainde fame because of the radio broadcast.
