My name is Ami Valdemoro, and I am representing both the American Cancer Society and the Global Smokefree Partnership.
I joined the tobacco control community a year ago, after graduating with a degree in international politics from university. I have lived in different cities around the US and in several countries around the world, and look forward to meeting all of you in Bangkok!
This will be my first time attending the Conference of the Parties, and I hope to keep you posted on the meeting's progress, particularly around smokefree issues.
As many of you may know, the Global Smokefree Partnership launched a campaign in March 2007 to encourage governments to adopt the existing draft guidelines for Article 8 of the FCTC, which addresses exposure to secondhand smoke. I'm happy to announce that the "Global Voices for a Smokefree World" campaign has now secured the support of over 500 NGOs in more than 100 countries. Thanks to everyone who became involved in the campaign - every voice truly does make a difference!
We still have five days until CoP-2 begins, so if you are interested in signing up, please click here for more information.
Stay tuned to this blog for more updates on Article 8 and Smokefree issues at the CoP. I hope to see you in Bangkok!
P.S. - I also speak Spanish and French, so some of my postings will be in these languages. Si vous avez aucun doute ou question, n'hésitez pas me communiquer en français. Para aquellos que soliciten más información en español, pueden comunicarse conmigo sin problema.
