FCTC COP2, Bangkok- What’s on the agenda?

The second session of the Conference of the Parties to the Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (FCTC) begins this Saturday 30 June and will run till Saturday 6 July in Bangkok, Thailand. The Conference of the Parties will convene to make decisions concerning the implementation of the Framework Convention on Tobacco Control. Up for discussion is the action that was taken between the first and second session following the various decisions made at the first session of the Conference of the Parties that was held in February 2006, Geneva. Items on the agenda include:

The long road from Nigeria to Bangkok

It has been a very long and ardous task to secure a passage to Thailand. It all began a few weeks or so back when I got the confirmation that I am one of those to be sponsored to participate in COP2.

This is my first attendance at such a gathering. I thought it was going to be a simple case of presenting my documents at the Thai embassy and getting a visa. I was wrong. Until June 15th this year, there was no Thai embassy in Nigeria so one had to travel to London to obtain a visa before proceeding on the journey.
