Its a bit unfortunate that I do alot of talks on Swedish snus. In the presentations I have to distinguish between snus portion-packed in little tea-bags and "loose" (like ground coffee). With my Scottish accent the words loose snus seems to provoke laughter from the audience even though Im trying to be serious. Oh well.
Todays session on snus/harm reduction was well attended but didnt produce the usual fireworks elicited by this topic.
Ann McNeill tried to steer the debate (with the audience) towards a consensus but there was quickly a complaint from a audience member who didnt like the direction it was going in. After that the comments from the audience were somewhat muted, and so I found it hard to tell what they were really thinking.
The thing Ive learned about snus in the past week that struck me the most was from Birgitta Stegmyr (fom Sweden) who told me that in Northern Sweden only 3% of 18-35 year old men are daily smokers (while 28% use snus). Amazing stuff .
