As from today, December 01, Decree 11/2007 of May 30 of the Council of Ministers, which regulates the use and sale of tobacco products, has come into force in all national territory of Mozambique.
According to this decree, it is forbidden to smoke cigarettes, cigars, pipes or any other form of tobacco product in closed public environments, such as government’s departments, hospitals, schools, Libraries, Theatres, Cinemas, restaurants and Bars, except in those places designed for smokers or for consumption of tobacco products.
Besides that, the decree also bans the sale of tobacco products to children under 18 years old.
Equally, the decree bans tobacco advertising in all mass media as well as in billboards, pamphlets, murals, and public transport terminals and in public pass ways.
It is important to remind that Mozambique has not yet ratified the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control adopted by the World Health Organization, which the Government signed on June 18, 2003.
