The TobaccoFreeCA site now hosts 8 TV ads from past campaigns but there are no direct links so you'll have to go to the page, until geeks find ways to post them on YouTube :) LISTEN
Showing California's lingustic diversity there are ads in spanish, in chinese, korean and english...The site has also added a series of images (11) from previous campaigns on this page of TobaccoFreeCA.com and a series of radio ads several of them in spanish. Unfortunately they are strictly blocked on their site, at least for me. Also interesting to read is the report Confronting a relentless adversary (pdf) 2006-2008. There are many lessons to learn from California but not every country has the possibility to use the popular initiative tool that was instrumental for the citizenry to bypass the politicians controlled by the tobacco industry. The same lesson can be learned from the East Coast where Florida's citizens, as we recently mentioned, forced their "representatives" to reinstate funding for tobacco control by amending the consititution via a popular initiative. A tribute to the sentence that tobacco control is 98% political and that the strongest programs happen when the citizens can make the final decision and have a permanent control on how they are run.
