Looking at the logo of the wolf howling to the moon I did not immediately realized that Hazel Wolf was a person.
Then I discovered Hazel had been an advocate and activist extraordinaire during all her long and full life.
Googling her name I found a number of very interesting documents.
I think they should be linked to the home site.
Her name was also chosen for the Seattle Waldorf High School, Hazel Wolf High School.
Here is a nice article by Judd Slivka in the Jan 21, 2000 PI: Hazel Wolf, fighter for ecology and the little guy, dead at 101.
I especially like when she is quoted saying to a young girl her parents had named her after a nut.
Susan Starbuk wrote a book about Hazel, Hazel Wolf fighting the establishment.
Another one about el lobo loco.
Cat Saunders published an interview in the Sun (september 91)
A tribute by Vicki Saint-Clair underlines the importance of having fun.
And finally (at least for now), the origin of the festival:
A project generated with funding from Harriet Bullitt to Kooskooskie Commons
with inspiration from NW environmental filmmaker John DeGraffe (of Affluenza
fame) and honoring, Hazel Wolf, one of the most beloved Northwest
environmentalists of the 19th,20th, and 21st centuries (Hazel lived from 1898 to
2000) the Hazel Wolf Environmental Film Festival brings together filmmakers,
educators, environmentalist, and naturalists from around the planet to Sleeping
Lady Conference and Retreat Center in Leavenworth, WA each spring to view films,
discuss filmmaking techniques, and environmental issues.
About the project of a documentary film about Hazel.
