The Blackburne Arms Hotel in Liverpool is ahead of the smoke-free regulation coming to England on July 1, 2007. He encourages others by taking part in the "Why Wait" campaign.
Ivan Jenkin said: "Liverpool is the lung cancer capital of Europe -
being in the licence trade and worried about my own health, I started
thinking about it. Elderly members of my family have died from smoking
related disease, and I wanted to do something to improve our
environment.
"When I was previously involved in the trade, and working in smoky
atmospheres, I suffered from nose bleeds. Whilst I can't prove that it
was smoking related, I don't get them anymore now our pub is smokefree.
"I now work on a campaign called 'Why Wait' - where we're encouraging
licensees to plan ahead for going smokefree. Businesses need to think
about applying for pavement licences, and start saving up for furniture
for outside. You don't want to be taken by surprise.
"Our business is very successful, now we've gone smokefree. On a
business level it's been great. People talk to us and tell us that they
come here specifically because of the fresh atmosphere. We've become a
destination point, because we're smokefree. It's as simple as that."

Smoking is bad for health, money and time, it should be avoided at all cost. Perseverence is the key. So try the best to repel the urge of smoking again....ever.
