Recent TV ads by NHS in the UK include two messages targeting young adults: If you smoke you stink for young women and the Finger Legs spot (about male impotence in smokers) for young men.

WATCH (Finger Legs) on YouTube
The 'motivations that matter' advertising campaign aims at encouraging young adults to give up smoking. Separate adverts target men and women. The ads targeting men show the impact of smoking on impotence and erectile dysfunction and use a burning cigarette end between two 'fingerlegs' as a metaphor for a penis. The strand targeting women uses stark images of the effects of smoking on appearance and attractiveness. The campaign includes TV, regional radio, press and on-line advertising and is supported by two microsites: www.stayinghard.info for men and www.uglysmoking.info for women.
