While the Smoke is Poison campaign has just started in the UK relying on interviews of professionals working with toxic chemicals (like the 2002 campaign in Massachusetts filmed by Michael Moore our friend Greg Conolly told us) another media campaign focusing on the toxic chemicals in the cigarette smoke was aired in France in 2002. WATCH (in French)
The 2002 French campaign started with a tease announcing that a very common product contained a number of toxic chemicals (mercury, ammoniac, etc): a panic occurred and thousands of people immediately concerned and worried called to inquire and learn it was cigarette smoke. The campaign then aired interviews of a number of smokers who did not think for one minute the product could be their cigarette. When they were told their surprise showed in their face and is captured in the ads. The ending was "Now you know" but I still wonder how many smokers now really know. I doubt they know much more than the smokers in the UK.
