Quit Goes For The Carotid

Quit Victoria has launched a new graphic TV ad showing a surgical removal of fatty deposits in the neck of a smoker. The goal is to emphasize the risk of stroke for smokers (that was also the theme of the recent media campaign in New South Wales). The ad is also posted on YouTube that tells us the ad will run on TV from May 31 to June 23.

World No Tobacco Day 2007: 100% Smoke-Free Environments. GLK Video creates a special blog where is hosted a selection of videos on this theme.

An Abusive Spot

This spot that assimilates second-hand smoke to physical abuse was produced for the American Lung Association of Maryland. It was taken off YouTube and other places after complaints were voiced and apologies offered. The controversy is detailed on Siegel's blog. WATCH

The talent fees road block

We frequently wonder why the TV ads are not posted on YouTube or other places on line. The explanation seems to be "talent fees" that ought to be paid because the rights have not been "bought out" when the contract was signed and it looks like it is a unionized practice (in the US) not to accept "buy-out"s.

Voice Within: The New Ad In New South Wales

The latest commercial, ‘Voice Within’, airs in NSW from 20 May to end of June 2007. The campaign produced by the Cancer Institute focuses on the graphic health warning “smoking doubles your risk of stroke”. The press release (pdf) indicates smoking causes 7 strokes per day in NSW. New Truth Spot: Derrick Beckles Interviews Nick Cannon

Rapper/actor Nick Cannon has become the new spokesperson for the American Legacy Foundation's anti-smoking campaign, Truth. The Gigolo hit maker uses satire to get the message across to youths in the organization's latest TV advertising campaign, which began airing in the US earlier this week.
