Western Australia: Don't smoke at home or in your car.

A new campaign by The Cancer Council Western Australia’s Make Smoking History program will encourage parents to make their home and cars smoke free to protect their children from the dangers of second hand smoke. The TV ads will run from May 27 to June 23. WATCH

This spot that assimilates second-hand smoke to physical abuse was produced for the American Lung Association of Maryland. It was taken off YouTube and other places after complaints were voiced and apologies offered. The controversy is detailed on Siegel's blog. WATCH

This is an interesting personal story posted on YouTube. Unfortunately you can see it attracts a much smaller audience (300+ vs 30K+) than the advices about how to smoke :(
The tobacco control community has to get better, much better at this youtube way of communicating about/against smoking.

Don't Pass Gas: Two New Clips

In November 2006, Legacy and the Ad Council launched 2 new clips about secondhand smoke. They are available on the dont' pass gas site and and on You Tube. The problem I have with this presentation is that the smoker appears totally unconcerned about his own health and the other people don't seem either: taking it outside is considerate but I find the very light tone sort of makes it OK to smoke (as long as it is outside).

Health Canada New Ad on YouTube

In what may be a first for the federal government, Health Canada has posted its new anti-smoking ad about secondhand smoke in the home on YouTube.
