The Michigan Supreme Court noted that “walking the beach below the ordinary high water mark is inherent in the exercise of traditionally protected public rights and falls within the scope of the public trust.”  The court added: “This activity remains subject to regulation, as is any use of the public trust.”

Public Disclosure Commission

I have read the letter published in the Review and the Islander about the fact that Will Peddy for Mayor was financed -up to now- essentially by contractors. I was curious to know a little more so I went to the site of the public disclosure commission and spent a few minutes figuring out how to get the info. I wish I could give you the direct link to the list but the system does not allow to keep it.

Here is the link to the search: click show choices, look for the name of the candidate you are interested in, select it then click Send Query on the bottom, then on the next form click the name on the left side. Sort of easy but tedious.
This list is not posted on the site of the Peddy's campaign. It would be easier if each candidate was making available the information filed with the PDC. If the candidate has no site, Voice of Bainbridge offers to host the info.

Bainbridge vigil for Cindy Sheehan

According to the buzz, there will be a vigil in support of Cindy Sheehan on Wednesday, August 17, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on the corner of Highway 305 and Winslow Way. The event is on the “Women in Black” corner, but it is not a Women in Black event.

Moveon.org is coordinating a national vigil to support Cindy Sheehan, the mother of a 24-year-old killed in Iraq. Sheehan is conducting a vigil near the President’s ranch in Crawford, Texas until he speaks with her about U.S. policy in Iraq.

Participants are asked to bring signs for the first part of the event at 6:30 and candles for second part which will start around 7:30.

Proustian bloggers

Marcel Proust had a reputation for writing such long sentences the average reader (like me) would get lost before seeing the end. Usually blog entries are not that long and/or the author uses the -in my opinion- very useful "post continuation" ("read more")- tool that allows you to think twice about continuing reading and eventually taking a big breath or  immediately skipping down to the next post.

Elisabeth has a blogmap. That's cool. I wish I could have one. Got to figure how to do it. She also has a nice picture from the Stine's exhibit at gallery Fraga. Go and see.

How much are the trees worth?

Joel Makeower mentions a study recently done in Washington DC to assess the value of their trees. I disagree with the method that provides an average value since I believe certain trees are more equal than others: because of their age, their beauty, their location. Anyway it is an interesting effort quite far from our present situation in Winslow where trees are worth NOTHING and certainly much less than a parking lot. When for each new housing unit the existence of one "significant" tree will have to be provided (instead of one or two parking spaces), the hope to keep the city livable will grow. Right now it going down very fast, as fast as trees are being cut down.
