A total of 500 trees were planted on either side of the highway between High School Rd. and Madison Ave. Volunteers who helped plant the trees were Charles Schmid, Bob Reinauer, Ryon Hess (BHS senior), Larry Koss, Jim Trainer and myself. Although the number of volunteers was small we did accomplish our goal.
By year's end, we hope to plant a total of 2000 trees along Hwy. 305. Trees were donated by Jim Trainer.
A big THANK YOU to Jim Trainer for
all his efforts in helping get this project under way.
My tree booth at the Home & Garden Show at Woodward school
generated a lot of interest and all copies of the Heritage Tree Nomination forms
were taken within the first hour.
It was surprising that no members of the Forestry Commission
participated or offered to help in either of these events. I also note that they
do not have a booth at the Earth Day event next weekend. I will again man a
booth to distribute information on trees at my own cost. I will also do the
same at the Arbor Day event at the Historic Museum.
What exactly is the function of the Forest Commission if not
to distribute information about trees at local events???
